Radiofrequency Microneedling

microneedling patient

This patient was treated with RF microneedling to significantly reduce visibility of an existing scar in just two sessions.

What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Radiofrequency Microneedling uses ultrafine needles with LED lights to emit radiofrequency waves that quickly and dramatically improve skin texture and firmness by stimulating the skin’s production of collagen. This procedure promotes healing in the skin's deep tissues and helps to erase wrinkles, sun damage, and fine lines. Most patients start with a series of three to four treatments spaced at least a month apart for best results.

Who is a good candidate for Radiofrequency Microneedling?

This treatment is safe for all skin types, and is ideal for patients who want to tighten skin, reduce acne scarring, even skin tone, and reduce signs of aging without the recovery and expense of surgery. It can also help reduce large pores and stretch marks. Patients should avoid treatment while they are using acne medication, have cold sores or a skin infection, are undergoing chemotherapy, or are pregnant.

What should I expect during Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Prior to the procedure, the area to be treated will be numbed with a local anesthetic so that you will not feel any pain or discomfort. During the procedure you may feel warmth but it will not hurt. The session usually takes less than a half hour, and you can go home afterward. You will schedule several sessions, and they will improve your skin on a cumulative basis. Some results will be noticeable immediately and others will take weeks to be fully realized.

How often do I need Radiofrequency Microneedling?

You can schedule the first few sessions every month to six weeks, depending on your age and skin concerns. After that, once every six months can be beneficial. Results typically last one or two years.

How much does Radiofrequency Microneedling cost?

Costs vary. Insurance does not cover the cosmetic procedure.

Will I have any downtime after the procedure?

While you can return to work immediately, some mild redness, swelling, and sensitivity, similar to a sunburn, may be noticed for the first 48 hours. It should resolve quickly, but you can wear makeup 24 hours after treatment. Your Cizik Eye Clinic care provider will discuss any additional side effects with you and answer any of your questions before the procedure. Consider scheduling the appointment before a free weekend so you have time to recover.

Talk to your doctor about which skin products will be most beneficial after the procedure.
