When to See an Ophthalmologist
An ophthalmologists is a medical doctor who has completed a three-year residency in ophthalmology (eye surgery) and at least a one-year internship in their specialty. They can provide eye exams, vision testing, write prescriptions, and perform eye surgery. (An optometrist cannot perform surgery.) The ophthalmologists at the Cizik Eye Clinic are faculty members in the McGovern Medical School Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual.
They are also board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Physicians practicing here are nationally and internationally renowned in their specialty and subspecialties. Our ophthalmology service provides comprehensive, compassionate care ranging from general eye exams to treatment of rare eye conditions, such as glaucoma and ocular tumors.
The subspecialties represented in the Cizik Eye Clinic include ophthalmic plastic, reconstructive and orbital surgery, corneal and external disease, glaucoma, retina and vitreous, pediatric ophthalmology, and neuro-ophthalmology. Diagnosing and treating eye issues early is key to developing and maintaining good vision.
